Maria McCann is a historical novelist and short story writer who has run workshops with start-ups, community interest groups, local government and charities. She has been a mentor to developing writers as part of the Arvon/Jerwood mentoring scheme and also has an MA in Creative Writing; for a decade she ran the Creative Writing programme at Strode College, Somerset. She was an RLF Writing Fellow at the University of the West of England. Her novels include As Meat Loves Salt, an Economist book of the year, The Wilding, longlisted for the Orange Prize and selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club, and Ace, King, Knave, a Times book of the year.
